A new independent Department of Economics, founded in 1996, will open its doors to students in 1998. It is hoped that soon this Department will form the nucleus for the School of Social Sciences.

The Departments of the University are further subdivided into Divisions, which cover more specialised areas in the sciences. Each Division is ultimately responsible for a number of courses of the curriculum, which may be offered to students of more than one Department.

 The University of Ioannina, Greece, would like to invite an expression of interest for a number of academic posts, which are currently available and/or will soon become available, at its newly established Department of Economics.

The University has over the last few years been building a reputation with its commitment to high quality research and teaching. Moreover, the University is fully committed to establishing the Department of Economics as a center of excellence.

The following are the main areas of interest at the current time, although good applicants in other fields should not feel discouraged to express an interest: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematical Economics, Statistics and Econometrics, Public Economics, Finance and Banking, International Economics, Industrial Organisation, Labour Economics, Environmental Economics, Economic History, and Sociology.
